l have had a back injury since 1999. l am not sure if l was having erectile dysfunction issues before this or not. l have been treated for low testosterone, but the treatments have not helped with the erectile dysfunction. l get erections usually in the morning and can usually get one if l am being physically touched/manipulated. but l can not seem to get one by thinking about sex or looking at porn or anything. l can get turned on, etc. but l do not get an erection until there is physical contact. could this be related to my lower back injury? if so, is there anything l can do? is there a ''cure''? if l stick with my exercises, will it improve? l am 26 and have been dealing with this since l was 18 years old and l really can not take it anymore. thanks for any help.
i would really like to emphasize how l am unable to ''think'' myself into an erection. l do get nocturnal erections... l am able to get an erection, but it requires physical manipulation. sexual thoughts, porn, etc. do not work...

erectile dysfunction after back injury

I had a brain injury in '98. Damage in the CNS (Central Nervous System - brain & spinal cord) can mess u up because it is where the nerves transmit information, & if ur highway is broken down, the cars r not going to get from point A to point B. I do not know what happened to ur lumbar spine, but I would imagine the pudendal nerve in the lumbar plexus of the spinal cord (at the sacrum or tailbone) could be the area where damage may have occured. However, erection is a physiological reaction of both psychological & physiological stimuli. Do u get erections during the night?

My doctor told me to do this when I asked him about it - do this only with ur doctor is instruction. He told me to put a piece of perforated tape around the penis before going to sleep. During the night, a healthy man will have nocturnal erections during rapid eye movement sleep. If u r healthy, that will cause the perforations to tear. In that case, u know that erectile dysfunction is not a physical problem, but psychological, & can move to another solution. Some options include medications in ur heart is healthy, & a bunch of other things that I wo not go into. You will find out.

That is getting into deeper stuff than I will go into here. I think that if this has happened to u since the back injury, & it is an incident of the back injury, u need to speak about this with ur doctor, if u have not already. This is something that is important for ur well-being, even if it is not life-threatening. Warning - insurance will only cover things that r life-threatening.
